Tony Blair keeps popping up. You can flush the system as much as you like, but the god-bothering, war-monger won't sink. He may wiz around the bowl several times, leaving skid marks on the porcelain. Yet, he's still there.
Without shame, he recently resurfaced at the dedication of a memorial for soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, soldiers he had killed through his callous religion-driven desire for confrontation. Soldiers and civilians died to fulfil Blair's fetish for supporting Bush II. At the dedication ceremony, the government didn't provide seats for the relatives of those killed. Yet, the instigator of the slaughter was fated, smooching around and pressing the flesh.
In Blair's distorted mind, the 2003 invasion of Iraq was justified. He defended himself robustly during the Chilcott inquiry, rejecting its findings. In summary, the inquiry found that Blair exaggerated the case for war, that Saddam Hussein was no imminent threat, and that the UK military was ill-equipped for the task. Thus, we had an unjustified war, and Blair misled the country.
But his staunch defence could not detract from the fact that he now looks like a haunted figure: A shrunken man facing a reckoning. He tried to make us believe his deceit. And, if Saddam Hussain was such an evil guy, then why did the UK and the US support him for decades?
Blair used 'historical amnesia' to twist the truth to go to war. He manufactured consent with the infamous doctored intelligence dossier. Throughout all this, he kept his religion under wraps, fearful of the impact. As Alastair Campbell, Blair's rottweiler communications guy, said: "We don't do God". Except that Blair was doing God and big time. He kept much of that secret from the public, fearing political consequences. He's since admitted he prayed and sought guidance from God for the war.
In 2005, after the Iraq invasion, with no weapons of mass destruction found, Blair flipped his reasoning. He justified the invasion on the grounds of confronting radical Islam. This stance is despite the fact Iraq was free of radical Islam until the invasion. Blair also argued that Iraq was a better place after the invasion. This position is a plain falsehood. Ten thousand corpses of innocent men, women, and children attest to this lie. Meanwhile, today, Iraq is a non-functioning state and the crucible of terrorism. That's Blair's legacy.
Once out of office, Blair immediately converted to Catholicism. Since then, he has bounced around as a hired help to various human rights abusers. In a laughable twist, he undertook the Middle East Peace Envoy role, having spent most of his time in office destabilising the region. You can't make this up. He resigned from that position in 2015, having achieved nothing.
And the turd surfaces again. He's seeking to meddle in Brexit. With his former party, Labour, in disarray and the Tories dictating the agenda, Tony can't stand to be out of the game.
Hopefully, we can finally flush the bowl to see this horrid little man, with his pumped-up ego and messiah complex, finally disappear. To see him on trial for war crimes would be a good outcome. No lesser figure than Bishop Tutu of South Africa suggested Blair face charges.
In 2011, a mock war crimes tribunal held in Kuala Lumpur found Blair and Bush guilty of crimes against humanity and genocide. He needn't worry. Given the incestuous nature of the British establishment, he's well protected.
If there is a God, I doubt he will welcome Tony Blair at the Pearly Gates. It's more like Blair will be going somewhere much warmer. In the meantime, keep flushing that bowl. One day, he will sink without a trace.
